Health care providers
are increasingly compelled by demographic changes, state and Federal
policies, and business opportunities to improve services to ethnically
and culturally diverse communities. With government and community guidance,
many organizations are responding to these forces with new programs and
practices to increase health care access and enhance quality. Building
on the broad base of collaboration and innovation established at our 1998
conference, the Second National Conference on Quality Health Care for
Culturally Diverse Populations highlighted federal, state, and local initiatives
through plenary sessions, and offered opportunities for skills development
and interactive discussions in workshop sessions. The core objective of
the conference was to address the challenges and successes of implementing
culturally competent services through dialogue and networking, and to
use participant input to advance a national policy agenda.
Conference sessions
this 3-1/2 day meeting included:
- intensive skills-building workshops designed to encourage participant
interaction
- plenary sessions with national leaders speaking on the latest trends,
practices, and policies
- strategy development and problem-solving sessions
- a resource center featuring exhibits, poster sessions, and roundtables
to facilitate networking
