Special Tours & Post Conference Special Session

After the conference is over, please join us for a special tour:

A. Harborview Medical Center, Community House Calls Program:
Join the team from Harborview Medical Center, the Seattle hospital owned by King County and operated by the University of Washington that delivers health care in eighty languages and dialects for an informational afternoon about their many programs. The site visit will include a tour of the facilities and the opportunity to speak with interpreters, providers and administrators in the Interpreter Services department, the Refugee and Immigrant Health Promotion Program, International Medicine Clinic, Ethnomed and the Community House Calls Program. Friday, October 20 – 2:00pm-5:00pm; $35/per person.

B. Daybreak Star Cultural Center and Cruise Around Seattle:
Depart the hotel and proceed to Pier 55 where we will board Argosy Cruises for a narrated tour of the harbor. Before returning to the hotel, we will spend an hour with a guide at the Daybreak Star Cultural Center, formed in 1970 to establish an urban base for Native Americans in the Seattle area.
Today the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation provides vital social and educational services to more than 25,000 Native Americans, from early child development and family counseling to housing homeless youth and preparing meals for the elderly.
Friday, October 20 – 2:00pm-5:00pm; $35/per person.

C. Tour of Seattle Chinatown and International District:
Come join your colleagues and discover Seattle’s Chinatown/International District. An Asian Cultural experience----fun, cultural, educational, and historical. A personal leisurely guided walking tour showing some of the highlights of this unique community. A visit into a Chinese Herb Dispensary and a visit with an herb and acupuncture doctor will be part of this afternoon. The tour will end with a selection of nutritious Chinese tea and delicious Chinese teacakes.

Post Conference Special Session: Eliminating Health Disparities in Washington: A Public Forum
Conference attendees are invited to attend a public forum hosted by the newly created GovernorĖs Interagency Council on Health Disparities. This will be an opportunity to introduce members of the Council and explain what has been done to get the Council up and running. The Council will ask participants for suggestions about how it should go about developing a statewide plan for eliminating health disparities in Washington.
